Longs Drugs

Longs Ads are delivered in the Sunday Honolulu Advertiser.  Their sales run weekly, Sunday through Saturday. (At my Kaneohe Longs, after 9pm on Saturday, they have all of their upcoming week sales available.  The ad is not posted, but if you walk through the middle aisle, you can view all the sale items with their sale prices posted.  They are basically getting ready for Sunday morning sales, but because the prices are posted, they honor them Saturday night.  And because it's still Saturday they also offer the current ad prices which are ending that day- but you have to know what the ending ad offers, because at that point those prices are no longer posted.)

For those who aren't aware, Longs Drugs was bought out by CVS Pharmacy in 2008.  They decided to keep the Longs Drugs name because Longs has such a long standing relationship with Kama'aina.  I'm sure you've noticed the cash register upgrades, and the CVS brand items that are seen all around the store.  Now what does this mean for you and I?  Well, we get to take advantage of CVS Pharmacy's Extra Care Card Program.

Extra Care Card Program
This program allows you to earn 2% on everything that you buy, excluding alcohol, tobacco, lottery, gift cards, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards, prescriptions, and special order Home Health Care items, including footwear.

The first thing you need to do is get your extra care card.  You can request one online here.  You can also set up your Extra Care Account Online, that way you can keep track of the points you are earning.  They do not offer the card in store, but you can request one on line,  and they will mail it to you.  My card took 2 weeks to get here, but my mom's card came within a week.

Simply hand the cashier your Extra Care Card every time you purchase something from Longs.  You will be rewarded your 2% of all your purchases quarterly.  At the end of each quarter, a catalina will print up with your receipt that will show the dollar amount you've earned that can be used toward your next purchase.  Or you could go to your account online and print up your quarterly reward.  Remember that these rewards do expire...so pay attention to the expiration dates.

You do have to present both your rewards card and the reward coupon to redeem the $ amount on your next purchase.

Catalinas will often print out with your receipt that are $$off/$$purchase, for example $5 off your next $20 purchase.

CVS also offers $$off/$$purchase for completing surveys and quizzes on their website, and other times they will email you $$off/$$purchase coupons...so be sure to set up your online account to receive those emails.  **note - every time I use these $$off/$$purchase coupons, the cashiers never seem to know what it is, but don't worry, the the directions for the cashier are printed right on the coupon.  As long as you have your extra care card with you to accompany that coupon, everything will go through just fine.

When using your reward present your coupons as follows,

Extra Bucks Reward Coupon

Here in Hawaii, we aren't offered Extra Bucks items through our Ads like they do in the mainland, and we also aren't included in the green bag tag program, where you can receive extra care reward points for using reusable shopping bags.  But we should be grateful that we are able to take advantage of the Extra Care Card Program, and it's 2% earnings.
